Twenty nine parliamentary election petitions have so far been filed in the Lusaka High Court.

The petitioners include former home affairs Minister Davies Mwila, former Defence Minister Richwell Siamunene and former Livestock Minister Greyford Monde who lost the Chipili, Sinazongwe and Itezhi tezhi parliamentary elections respectively.

Others include Steven Masumba and Sibongile Mwamba who lost the Mufumbwe and Kasama central elections respectively.

Meanwhile the Constitutional Court has set Wednesday, 31st August as the date for ruling on an application as to whether the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) should verify the ballot papers for the August presidential elections.

This follows an application for an injunction filed UPND president Hakainde Hichilema and his running mate Geoffrey Mwamba seeking to restrain the ECZ from verifying the ballot papers for the August general elections, and for court to keep in its custody all election materials from the ECZ head office.

And the Constitutional Court is tomorrow, Tuesday, 30th August set to hear an application by Mr. Hichilema and Mr. Mwamba in which they are seeking to make amendments to the presidential election petition.

Mr. Hichilema and Mr. Mwamba have challenged the declaration of President Lungu as winner of the August 11 presidential election.

The Court is expected to hear the petition within 14 days excluding the days it has been hearing preliminary issues.
