ECZ awards Dubai company tender to print ballots

Tempers flared at the Electoral Commission of Zambia Stakeholders’ meeting in Lusaka this morning after the Commissioned announced that it has awarded the tender for the printing of ballot papers for the August 11th elections to Al Ghurair of Dubai.
The during the heated meeting held at Mika convention centre, opposition political party leaders rejected the decision by the Commission to engage Al Ghurair printing and publishing to print ballot papers

They questioned why the ECZ has decided to go ahead to print the ballot papers in Dubai when the majority Zambians are against the idea.
Stakeholders also raised concern with regards the irregularities emerging from the ongoing voter verification exercise were certain details have been changed.
And ECZ Chairperson Justice Esau Chulu also announced that the question for the referendum which will be held alongside the general election.

HE says the question that people will be answering in the referendum is quote: “Do you agree with the amendment to the constitution to enhance the bill of right in Part three of the
Constitution of Zambia and to repeal and replace Article 79”.
Justice Chulu says citizens will be required to answer Yes or No to the question.
And Justice Chulu has disclosed that ten political parties have paid the Presidential nomination fee ahead of the filing of nominations.

He says of the ten political parties, the ruling PF and opposition UPND have paid their nomination fees in full.
The six parties that have paid half of the nomination fees include,Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD), Green Party, Democratic Assembly, People’s Alliance for Change, UNIP,MMD, United Progressive People and Rainbow party.
Meanwhile, the Examinations Council of Zambia revealed during the same meeting that those forty seven documents presented to them for verification as Grade 12 certificates were forged.
