The Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflection, (JCTR) has challenged President Edgar Lungu to tell the Zambian people where the money to buy maize from farmers will come from when it is evident that the government does not have money.

JCTR Head of programmes, Geoffrey Chongo wonders where government will find the money to pay farmers when it is in a debt crisis.
Mr Chongo fears that government might abandon some of the ongoing activities and divert the money to pay farmers, or resort to further borrowing.
He has further questioned President Lungu’s move to increase the maize floor price from K75 to K85 describing it as a political gimmick.

Mr. Chongo states that though the increase in the maize floor price is welcome, it raises a lot of questions considering that this is an election year.
