President Elect Edgar Lungu says the burning of shops at Bauleni market is politically motivated.

Speaking when he visited after Bauleni market were some shops were burnt to ashes in the early hours of today, President Lungu says he is not intimidated by the anarchy in the country.

He says those involved are trying to instill fear in the members of the general public, but that government will not allow this.

President Lungu says what is happening now is the Armageddon that was being talked about before the elections by the UPND.

And the affected shop owners have cried to government for help, saying they have lost huge sums of money.

Special Sanjase a depot owner says he has lost goods worth over 45 thousand kwacha after getting a loan to start up his business which he has not finished repaying.

And Bauleni Police post detective inspector Friday Chibale says the people behind the fire at the market used petrol bombs.

He says so far no suspects have been arrested.

And in a related development seven makeshift stalls made of planks and tents were this morning burnt by unknown people at around 02:00 hours along Mumbwa road opposite Nyangu filling station.

Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga has confirmed the incident to QFM but that no goods were burnt as the owners removed their merchandise from the makeshift stalls after knocking off.

He says the fire was discovered by Police Officers who were patrolling the area and later alerted the fire brigade who managed to put off the fire.

Meanwhile President Lungu says he will not meet the opposition UPND President Hakainde Hichilema until he stops his followers from causing anarchy in the country.

President Lungu says he has no time to meet Mr. Hichilema because he does not want to surround himself with violence.

He says Mr. Hichilema together with his vice president should travel to Namwala and call for peace, before he can meet him.
