Mpika accident claims one life

One person has died while another is nursing serious head injuries after an accident last evening along the Great North Road at Mpika‘s Framers Training Centre (FTC) area in Muchinga Province.

Muchinga Province Police Commissioner, Auxensio Daka, confirmed the accident to the Zambia News and Information (ZANIS) today.
Mr Daka said the accident, which happened around 18: 26hours 4km of north of Mpika, involved a Toyota Corolla registration Number ALB 1463 which was being driven by Flex Mulenga , 28, of Chitulika village, which hit on the rear part of an unregistered motor bike which was also heading north.

He said the motor bike passenger, Aaron Chiwama, a teacher at Kabale Primary School, was pronounced dead at upon arrival at Michael Sata Hospital while the rider identified, as Felix Banda, aged, 48, also a teacher at Kabale Primary School in Mpika, sustained serious head injuries and is currently receiving treatment at the same hospital.

The Police Commissioner said the driver of the vehicle, Mulenga, escaped unhurt, adding that his vehicle incurred a damaged front part while the motor bike has a damaged rear part.
Mr Daka said the vehicle has been impounded while the driver is being held at Mpika Police Station pending court appearance.
