Transport and Communications Minister, Brian Mushimba has maintained that the cyber bills that he will be taking to parliament are not meant to suffocate online space contrary to the perception by some stakeholders.

Mr. Mushimba tells QTV News that the premise for the proposed cyber laws is based on the abuse of the cyber space by some individuals in the country.

He has also contested view that the government through his ministry has not consulted or accommodated stakeholders over the bills, saying a number of stakeholders such as MISA Zambia Chapter; PANOS among others have visited his office for clarification.

The Minister has explained that government has a bigger picture in the usage of ICT’s, hence the need to have laws that define the boundaries of the cyber space and avoid online bullying cases.
